Friday is expected to be very hot again,  so most of our walk with be in the lovely,  cool, deciduous Eccleshall Woods, with brooks and only very brief spells in open fields / along the road.

MEET: 10am in the car park of J G Graves Woodland Discovery Centre, 260 Abbey Lane, S7 2QZ. Parking free but donations welcome.

We’ll be following a 3 – 4 mile circular woodland trail, mainly flat but with some steps, through Eccleshall Woods,  Whirlow fields wildlife ponds and down to the Abbeydale Miniature Railway off Eccleshall Road South. After a detour through the Beauchief Gardens (a good example of garden design in the 1930s), we’ll return via the Wood Collier’s Monument to the Discovery Centre.

There are plenty of short walk options with good café stops at the Discovery Centre and / or Joni’s at the historic grade 1 and 2 listed Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet. https://www.sheffieldmuseums.org.uk/visit-us/abbeydale-industrial-hamlet/  ( Beware nasty road crossing of Abbeydale Road South,  A625.)

LUNCH: at the Rising Sun, 665, Abbey Lane, S11 9ND.  https://www.emberinns.co.uk/nationalsearch/yorkshireandthehumber/the-rising-sun-hotel-sheffield/menus/food#/

No need to pre-book lunch but please let us know if you’re walking.

 Hope to see you,

Thanks.
