Start point unspecified on the email but from the description I infer it’s Whirlow Park.
Long walkers park in the top car park (at the end of the drive, behind the Hall) ready to start walking at 10 a.m.
The ‘short walkers’ can park at either the top car park or at the bottom – on the semi-circle to the right of the A625. From both places, walk down or up to the cafe. Coffee could then be bought, before the short walkers join me to do the park’s short ‘Blue Trail’ (map leaflet in cafe) and see the rock garden which is looking lovely just now.
The long walkers will take the central path with Shelagh, through the former Rough Standhills larch plantation to join the main Limb Valley path up to Ringinglow. They can then walk through Lady Cannings Plantation to the Ox Stones.
Their return route is the same Limb Valley path to the stone bridge then carrying on past the Mill pond and back up to the cafe via the new community orchard.
Long walk Distance approx 4-5 miles, one gradual slope, four stiles and a great view of Sheffield from Ringinglow. Tree roots are the main hazard – walking poles are advisable.
Lunch is at the Norfolk Arms.
Turn right out of the semi circle onto the A625. (Hathersage Road), take the first right onto Long Line, right again at the T junction with Sheephill Road, then the Norfolk Arms is opposite the next T junction with Ringinglow Road.
The Norfolk Arms would like to seat us on a long table in either their bar area if we’re bringing a dog or a separate room. So, please let me know by Tuesday evening if you’re staying and if you’re bringing a dog.
Many thanks
Chris and Shelagh
