The A57 Snake Pass will be closed to all traffic for five days from Monday, May 22, for resurfacing works to be carried out at Gillot Hey and Wood Cottage.

The road will be closed to all users, including pedestrians and cyclists except for resident and farmers access. The closed stretch runs from the Snake Summit to the turning for the Upper Derwent visitor centre at Fairholmes.
Although the section affected by landslips is only 2km the closure provides an opportunity to repair retaining walls and potholes, clear storm drains to reduce ongoing erosion and surface flooding.
Diversions will mean additional traffic on other routes over the Pennines. The signed diversion will be via Bamford, Bradwell, Peak Forest to join the A6 (then, if needing to rejoin A57, A624 via Hayfield & Glossop)
Once the repairs have been completed, traffic lights will remain at Alport.
Reminder: Work to replace the water main on the A625 at Froggatt originally planned to be completed in mid Feb 2023 hit bedrock. That called for more difficult engineering work and is now expected to continue into June or July. The road remains closed from Longshaw to Calver although access is possible down to near the turn into Froggatt.
